Although
Spanish islands, the often cheap Canaries are located
to the north-west of Africa, and as such maintain a
fabulous warm climate throughout the year making them
a popular choice for travellers from all around Europe.
There
are main Canary islands that are popular with visitors,
attracted by the wide range of things to do and places
to explore.
Fuerteventura
is a peaceful haven with sun-kissed sandy beaches and
an unhurried atmosphere. Soft white sands, rolling waves
and attractive resorts make Fuerteventura, the second
largest of the Canaries, a natural playground for beach
lovers and watersports enthusiasts.
The
island of Gran
Canaria is often referred to as a mini continent,
not just because it is situated between three continents
(Afria, Europe and the Americas), but also for its variation
in weather, benefiting from the Gulf flow and local
landscapes. The north is usually cooler than the sometimes
fiery heat of the south, whilst inner regions, being
mountainous, can be cloudier and colder with more rain.
Lanzarote
is considered by many to be the most beautiful island.
Swirling multi-coloured rock strata, soaring volcanic
peaks and jet black solidified lava streams punctuate
Lanzarote's stark, moon-like landscape. Take time to
visit the Timanfaya national park and learn about the
volcanic history of the island.
Tenerife
is one island, but can be two very different holidays.
Go south for hot sunshine and a lively nightlife and
head north for dramatic scenery and sophistication.
The island may be closer to Africa than Europe, but
the atmosphere is most definitely Spanish - relaxed
and unhurried by day, with the pace hotting up (certainly
in the south) once the sun goes down.
